My journey starts now.
Italian dressing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From the page: "The U.S.-style Italian dressing is unknown in Italy, where salad is normally dressed at table with olive oil, vinegar, salt, and sometimes black pepper, and not with a pre-mixed vinaigrette."

Once again, if it's clearly NOT Italian, then WHY defining it as such?

STRAAAAAANGE.

Side note: I wonder how much they paid Paul for this.

I just love the typically American discrepancy between foreign words and their meanings. Especially if coupled with misspelling and grammar mistakes.

Pepperoni (and Fettuccine Alfredo, read below) made my day in Columbus. I will never forget my astonishment when I first had my Pepperoni Pizza and it turned out to be something completely different from what I was expecting.

I still cannot understand the covert mental associations leading Americans to call salami (by the way, don't even get me started about their deep-rooted habit of borrowing plural Italian names and using them as singular!) with a name that means "bell peppers" in Italian.
As we say, BOH!

Anyway, to be honest, the Pepperoni Pizza at Katie's (Gahanna, OH) was surprisingly delicious. Not sure I could say the same about Di Giorno's (one more Italian name, Oh My) frozen counterpart. That crust was sinfully thick!

Exponentially growing amazement as I read this page about one of the most intriguing myths in pseudo-Italian cooking.

Alfredo is no more a mystery to me. The etymology of the name for this hypercaloric dish (which - believe me, Americans - does NOT exist in Italy, no matter how hard Chef Tony and Magic Bullet's main characters will try to brainwash you on the whole subject. It's NOT an Italian dish) has been literally haunting me for four entire weeks when I was in Ohio. Whenever we went somewhere out to eat, I could see Alfredo's obsessive presence. People would give me a benevolent paternal smile then, as they thought Oh look, your typical Italian dish!
And I kept wondering all the time, WHO is this Alfredo? Why giving an Italian name to some dish that we don't even have?

Curtain falls. He is alive!

But only in the US.

Yes, I know it's my third post from the same site, but I really can't help it. My new addiction is dominating me and it couldn't feel better.

From the page: "Obviously some sort of evil enfattening ray has been trained on Smalltropolis, and everyone looks like they just spent a fortnight at Chili's restaurant drinking from the deep-fryer grease trap."
